Specialist repairs & diagnostics for japanese performance vehicles.
Japanese performance vehicles require more than a generic approach to repairs. Age, previous modifications, increased power and years of previous maintenance can all influence both the cause of a problem and the correct way to repair it.
Tokyo Motorsports has specialised in Japanese performance vehicles since 2007. Our purpose-built, 1,000 sqm Welshpool workshop combines experienced technicians, specialist diagnostic equipment and extensive platform knowledge to accurately diagnose faults and carry out repairs in-house.
Whether it’s a relatively simple mechanical problem or a difficult fault that has already been investigated elsewhere, the priority is to identify the cause of the problem before replacing parts unnecessarily.
- Mechanical repairs
From oil and coolant leaks to cooling system faults, worn components and general mechanical failures, Tokyo Motorsports carries out a broad range of mechanical repairs.
Performance vehicles often require a different approach to standard workshop repairs. Modified components, increased engine output and non-standard installations can change both how components fail and how they should be repaired.
Where possible, the cause of the failure is established before repairs begin, particularly where simply replacing the failed component could result in the same problem occurring again.
- Brake repairs
Brakes are critical to both safety and performance.
Tokyo Motorsports can diagnose and repair brake system problems including worn pads and rotors, fluid leaks, sticking or seized calipers, hydraulic faults, brake vibration and other braking concerns.
The complete braking system can be inspected to establish what actually requires attention, with appropriate parts selected for the vehicle and the way it’s used.
Where improved braking performance is required rather than repair of the existing system, performance brake packages and upgrades are also available through our Upgrades services.
- Suspension and steering
Worn suspension and steering components can affect far more than ride quality. They can cause poor handling, instability, uneven tyre wear, noise and changes in steering feel.
Tokyo Motorsports can inspect and repair suspension and steering systems including shock absorbers, bushes, ball joints, wheel bearings, steering components and other worn or damaged components.
With wheel alignment carried out in-house using our industry-leading Hunter HawkEye alignment equipment, suspension repairs can be followed through to final geometry setup rather than treating the repair and alignment as separate jobs.
Servicing all Japanese makes and models
Using high quality parts and oils, we do everything from general logbook servicing, to general maintenance and repairs.
- Electrical repairs
Modern performance vehicles rely heavily on increasingly complex electrical and electronic systems.
Electrical faults can range from relatively straightforward wiring and charging-system problems through to intermittent faults involving sensors, control modules, aftermarket accessories or previous modifications.
Tokyo Motorsports can diagnose and repair electrical faults, wiring problems and issues associated with both factory and aftermarket systems.
- Diagnostics and fault finding
Good diagnostics should identify the problem – not simply produce a fault code.
A diagnostic trouble code is often only the beginning of the investigation. Accurate fault finding may require live data analysis, electrical testing, mechanical testing, fuel and ignition system checks, smoke testing, pressure testing or other diagnostic procedures to establish the actual cause.
Our experience with modified vehicles is particularly valuable where the problem may involve an interaction between factory systems, aftermarket components and ECU calibration.
Our AUTEL professional diagnostic system provides advanced access to vehicle control systems, including fault codes, live data and system functions, giving our technicians the information required to investigate faults beyond a basic diagnostic scan.
- Engine diagnosis and repairs
Engine problems can range from oil leaks and abnormal noises through to low compression, excessive oil consumption, overheating and complete engine failure.
Tokyo Motorsports has extensive experience diagnosing and repairing Japanese performance engines, with testing available including compression testing, cylinder leak-down testing, cooling-system pressure testing and other mechanical diagnostic procedures.
Where internal engine damage is suspected, the engine can be removed and inspected to establish the extent and cause of the failure before the appropriate repair or rebuild is recommended.
For applications requiring increased engine strength or performance beyond the original specification, built-engine options are covered under Upgrades.
- Transmission and driveline
Clutches, gearboxes, differentials, driveshafts and other driveline components operate under considerably greater loads in modified performance vehicles.
Tokyo Motorsports can diagnose and repair transmission and driveline problems including clutch faults, gearbox issues, differential problems, driveline noises, vibration and worn or damaged components.
The vehicle’s power level and intended use are taken into account when recommending repairs, particularly where replacing an original component with another standard part may not be the most appropriate long-term solution.
