Turbos

There is no perfect turbo...

There are many different turbo upgrades available for the 4G63, each with its own set of characteristics such as spool up, lag and maximum power output. There is one thing that everyone asks for though: More power without any more turbo lag.

Unfortunately this is very difficult to achieve. As soon as you move to a bigger turbo you are likely to make more top end power at the expense of spool up bottom and power (more lag).
The correct choice of turbo depends entirely on the type of use, supporting modifications and budget.

A short circuit car, or motorkhana car, that doesn’t achieve big speeds but relies more on mid range torque and ‘on off’ throttle response would benefit from a smaller turbo that is quick to spool. A large open circuit type racer however needs plenty of mid range to top end power to give it a better top speed and more acceleration, so a larger turbo would be more suitable.

Evo 9 RS Turbo: TD05-HRA-16G6mC-10.5T

The popular choice of those who want maximum spool up, good mid range power and unbeatable ‘on off’ throttle response. The titanium turbine wheel in combination with the magnesium compressor wheel gives an extremely light rotating assembly which is ideal for optimum throttle response. The perfect street or motorkhana turbo.

Because of some reliability issues, we can have these turbos modified with 360 degree thrust bearings prior to installation (even with brand new turbos). This makes them more expensive but also makes them much more reliable and cost effective in the long run.

Evo 9 RS Turbo (TD05-HRA-16G6mC-10.5T) from: $3550 + Install.

Uprated 360 thrust bearings: add $650

Available for all models.

Evo Green or 20g Turbo.

One of the most well known turbo upgrade for the 4G63.

The ‘Green’ or 20g turbochargers spool up a little later than the stock turbochargers but make good mid to top end power. The spool up is typically around 300-500 rpm higher than stock and maximum power can be in excess of 300Kw at the wheels.

Working well in the 1.3bar to 1.6bar range on pump fuel, this turbo is a good upgrade for open circuit cars and stroked motors.

Evo Green turbos from: $3250 + install.

Available for all models.

Evo Red Turbo.

The Evo ‘Red’ turbo makes excellent top end power. Spool up is typically around 800-1000 rpm higher then stock but the maximum power output can be as high as 425Kw at the wheels. Working well in the 1.5bar to 1.7bar range on pump fuel, this turbo is well suited to drag racing and stroked motors.

Evo Green turbos from: $3450 + install.

Available for all models.
