Our workshop development Evo 7 and Jamie’s daily drive.
Originally imported from Japan in May 2007, this Evo started out its life in Australia as a totally stock Evo 7. Now it is our test car and is constantly being modified and upgraded.
The aim of this project was to try and build the ultimate compromise between street car, track car and show car.
We wanted to make the car as lively as possibly in the mid range and chose to go for maximum torque spread throughout the rev range instead of high top-end power. This was achieved with the lightweight Evo 9 RS turbo, some careful head porting together with fairly mild 260 degree cams. The body was lightened slightly (1320Kgs in race trim) and fitted with adjustable coliover suspension, stiffer sway bars and good quality Project Mu brakes.
Accelerating from a standing start to 100Km/h in 4.0 seconds (with the help of a carbon fibre twin plate clutch), the results speak for themselves.
Maximum power of 240kw (measured at the hubs) is at 6500 rpm and peak torque (measured at the hubs) is 425NM is reached at just 4200rpm.

Even at 240Kw this car is blistereingly fast on the road. It is also an excellent 'real world' example of why you do not necessarily need big horsepower numbers to make a fast car.
